Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has promised to serve only one four-year term if elected president in Nigeria’s 2027 general election. Speaking at an Allied Peoples Movement (APM) town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the party’s presidential candidate also pledged to run an inclusive government and address insecurity and poverty.

Makinde’s promise comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections and follows a similar pledge by Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi. The commitments have also renewed discussions about Nigeria’s informal North-South power-sharing arrangement, as President Bola Tinubu seeks re-election for another term.

Meanwhile, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his verbal attacks against Tinubu. Keyamo attributed Atiku’s remarks to political disappointment and urged those close to him to offer support, while making personal claims about his mental health that remain Keyamo’s own assertions.
