Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that APC leaders asked his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, to withdraw from the 2018 governorship race to allow him to emerge as the party’s candidate.

Sanwo-Olu made the disclosure on Friday during the presentation of Hamzat’s governorship manifesto in Lagos. He said Hamzat had the experience and political backing to contest but accepted the party leaders’ request to step aside and later agreed to become his running mate.

The governor praised Hamzat for his loyalty and cooperation throughout their seven years in office, citing their joint handling of major challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the October 2020 crisis. He said their administration had maintained a united working relationship without public disagreements.
