APC leaders in Lagos State have dismissed Peter Obi and other opposition candidates as threats to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party has addressed the mistakes that contributed to its defeat in Lagos in 2023.
The leaders made their position known during the inauguration of the Iyaloja General Movement (IGM) for Renewed Hope Initiatives, organised by Tinubu’s daughter, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo. The Lagos State Director-General of the movement, Adejumbo Omofumilewa, described the event as a mini-rally and insisted that Peter Obi was not a threat to the APC in the state.
Meanwhile, the movement’s Director-General, Nasiru Ladan, disclosed that it had attracted more than 2,500 support groups and was targeting 10 million votes for Tinubu. Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi also said the party was strengthening its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election, while the Akwa Ibom coordinator, Prince Mendy Achibong, pledged over 80 per cent of his state’s votes for the president.
