Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disclose the companies responsible for printing sensitive materials for the 2027 general election. In a statement issued through his Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said transparency over procurement and departmental changes was necessary to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.

Atiku questioned reported changes involving INEC’s Electoral Operations Department and called for explanations about the appointments and redeployments of key officials. He also asked the commission to confirm or deny claims that Hitech or an associated company had secured contracts to print sensitive election materials, including presidential ballot papers. The allegations and reported allocations have not been independently established in the supplied account.

The ADC candidate further called on INEC and the Central Bank of Nigeria to disclose relevant printing contracts, procurement procedures, contractor allocations and security arrangements. He urged the electoral commission to maximise domestic security-printing capacity and ensure a transparent chain of custody for ballots and result sheets, warning that public trust would depend on credible preparations for the 2027 election.
