President Bola Tinubu has approved lifetime salaries for retired Comptrollers-General and Deputy Comptrollers-General of Immigration, according to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The minister said the decision forms part of efforts to improve workers’ welfare under the ministry.

Tunji-Ojo disclosed this on Friday during the closing ceremony of a training programme on border control and immigration management at the Immigration Headquarters in Abuja. He also stated that more than 50,000 personnel under the ministry had received promotions since Tinubu assumed office, alongside the recruitment of at least 40,000 new personnel.

The minister added that the President had approved salary increases and improved hazard and special allowances for personnel. He explained that retired immigration chiefs previously received pensions of about ₦130,000, which he described as inadequate, before the approval of lifetime salaries for the two categories of former officials.
