Veteran Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale has paid tribute to the late actor Olu Jacobs, describing him as a wise and knowledgeable mentor who played an important role in shaping her acting career. Sobowale spoke during a Night of Tribute held for Jacobs at Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos on Wednesday.
Reflecting on her journey in Nollywood, Sobowale said audiences often recognise her acting ability without knowing the people who helped develop her skills. She recalled Jacobs’ habit of correcting and advising her, including his familiar “Sola, no, no, no” gesture, which she said often carried a deeper message of caution and guidance.
Sobowale described Jacobs as a selfless man whose influence extended beyond his performances on screen. Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84, leaving behind a career that spanned decades in Nigerian theatre, film and television.
