Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has said social media has reduced the admiration and prestige musicians once enjoyed from fans. Speaking in an interview with Lun Lifestyle TV, the former P-Square member explained that artistes were more mysterious before social media became widespread.

Rudeboy noted that musicians now share more of their daily lives online, making them more accessible to fans. He argued that constant promotional posts, TikTok videos and public exposure have reduced the excitement and fascination that once surrounded popular artistes.

Although he acknowledged the positive impact of social media on the music industry, Rudeboy said it had also encouraged what Nigerians call “see-finish.” He recalled how fans previously encountered musicians mainly through music videos and occasional public appearances, unlike today, when their activities are frequently recorded and shared online.
