Pope Leo XIV’s brother, Louis Prevost, is reportedly receiving treatment for blood cancer, according to a report by NBC 5 Chicago journalist Mary Ann Ahern. A source close to the Prevost family reportedly confirmed the development, but no details were provided about Louis’s prognosis or how long he has been undergoing treatment.

The report emerged a day after Leo XIV underwent surgery in Rome, during which doctors reportedly diagnosed him with lung adenocarcinoma, a type of non-small cell lung cancer. The Vatican said the procedure involved removing the lower lobe of the pope’s right lung.

According to Harvard Medical School, lung adenocarcinoma occurs when abnormal cells in the lungs grow uncontrollably and form a tumour. The Lung Cancer Foundation of America identifies it as the most common type of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 40 per cent of cases. Further details about the reported health condition of the pope’s brother have not been made public.
