The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the federal government to explain the management of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, demanding greater transparency and accountability. In a statement, PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of failing to meet statutory requirements for transparency, due process and public accountability.

Wabara made the remarks following Works Minister David Umahi’s disclosure that the highway would be rerouted through the existing East-West Road from Ondo into Edo State. The PDP argued that the proposed realignment raised questions about the project’s original engineering design and environmental impact assessment. The party also alleged that the contract was awarded without the necessary approvals, competitive bidding and National Assembly appropriation.

The PDP Board of Trustees described the situation as a serious concern and called for a full investigation into the project. It urged the federal government to provide Nigerians with clear information about the contract and its implementation, insisting that major infrastructure projects should comply with the law and remain open to public scrutiny.
