Veteran Ghanaian actor Majid Michel has described comparisons between Ghana’s movie industry and Nigeria’s Nollywood as stupid, arguing that the two industries differ significantly in population size and market potential.

Speaking in an interview with Y1079 FM Accra, Michel said Nigeria’s larger population makes it more likely to have more actors and filmmakers than Ghana. He noted that Ghana has fewer than 40 million people, while Nigeria has a much larger population.

Majid Michel also argued that it is unfair for Ghana to compare itself with more established countries, particularly in leadership and institutional development. He said countries with centuries of leadership experience have had more time to build strong systems.
