Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, has resigned following his nomination as a commissioner by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Kano Electoral Commission Chairman resignation was confirmed in a statement by his media aide, Bashir Habib Yahya. Malumfashi announced his departure during a farewell meeting with commissioners and staff, thanking them for their cooperation and contributions to the successful conduct of the 2024 local government elections.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over the appointment of Oluyemi Titilayo Adeyemi-Showunmi as head of INEC’s Electoral Operations Department. Okonkwo argued that her appointment could undermine public confidence in the 2027 general election because of her husband’s involvement in President Bola Tinubu’s campaign council.
