Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up about her personal struggles, revealing that she sometimes cries and experiences emotional breakdowns despite her public image of making people happy through her movies. During an interview with CNN journalist Larry Madowo, the actress explained that she sometimes locks herself in her room to cry when life becomes overwhelming. She added that expressing her emotions helps her regain strength and continue moving forward.
Funke Akindele also spoke about the pressure of being a public figure, particularly the public scrutiny surrounding her marriages and relationship breakdowns. She admitted that she sometimes questions her decisions and worries about how people might judge her. According to the actress, dealing with such challenges requires her to confront her fears, accept difficult moments and find the courage to move on rather than remain trapped by other people’s opinions.
Reflecting on the lessons she has learnt over the years, Funke Akindele stressed the importance of self-love, personal well-being and maintaining meaningful relationships outside work. “You need to take care of yourself. You need to love yourself. You need to have time for your family, your loved ones, because as the work would go, the family would be there,” she said. Her remarks highlight the importance of balancing professional ambitions with personal happiness and making time for family and loved ones.
