Nigerian gospel singer Laolu Gbenjo has warned members of the public against spreading unverified information about the death of his colleague, Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings. Speaking on Tuesday at a night of tributes held in the late singer’s honour in Ibadan, Oyo State, Laolu Gbenjo expressed concern over controversies surrounding the death and burial arrangements, reportedly involving disagreements among family members. He cautioned against turning the circumstances into a controversy similar to that surrounding the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing Toluwanisings as a devoted Christian with a good heart ,Laolu Gbenjo said the late singer was friendly, hardworking and committed to serving God. He urged social media users to stop spreading claims about the deceased without verifying their authenticity. “Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” he said, expressing concern about online discussions surrounding the singer’s death.
Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death. Woli Agba announced the move in a public notice shared on Instagram on Sunday. According to the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians are challenging allegations they consider false and defamatory, warning members of the public against publishing or circulating claims that could damage their reputations.
