Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has spoken about the importance of humility and simple living, saying his wealth does not prevent him from staying in a basic hotel or making do with simple comforts. He made the remarks at the Vision 2030 event on Monday.

Dangote also accepted an invitation from content creator Bae U Barbie to appear on his YouTube programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask. He said young people represent the future and stressed the need for older generations to share their experiences with them, admitting that his generation had not done enough for Nigeria and Africa.

The billionaire industrialist also recalled meeting Ethiopia’s Prime Minister and learning that the leader had gone eight years without using a driver. Dangote explained that his own experiences as a young man influenced his willingness to take photographs with members of the public, regardless of his status.
