Nigerian singer Mayorkun has explained why ending a friendship can be more difficult to overcome than a romantic breakup. Speaking on the In My Opinion podcast, the singer said people often invest more emotionally in friendships because genuine connections go beyond romantic or sexual attraction.

Mayorkun explained that romantic relationships may involve sexual intimacy, while friendships are built mainly on companionship, mutual affection and enjoying each other’s company. According to him, people maintain friendships because they genuinely like and appreciate one another, rather than because they expect material benefits.

The singer added that losing a friend can make it harder to trust and build another close friendship. He noted that someone might find a new romantic partner before finding another genuine friend, particularly because meaningful friendships require a deeper personal connection.

  1. Yeah you’re on point 👌 Absolutely correct and true 💯 For me I still value friendship much more than a romantic relationship…..as a matter of fact friendship is the best relationship I’ve enjoyed over the years. The genuine sacrifices without expecting payback and the friend eventually gets to fill other spots vacant, this is topnotch💌⚡
