Factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Interim National Working Committee, Kabiru Turaki, has urged Nigerians to reject vote-buying and other forms of inducement during the 2027 general elections. Turaki made the call in Bauchi at a colloquium organised to mark Governor Bala Mohammed’s 68th birthday, urging voters to consider the ability and record of candidates when making their choices.

Turaki said the quality of leaders produced through elections would influence how the country is governed over the following four years. He also urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to participate actively in politics rather than remain on the sidelines, while warning against accepting money, food or other items in exchange for votes.

The PDP chieftain also raised concerns about the role of the legislature in providing checks and balances within government. He argued that young Nigerians should be treated as active stakeholders in shaping the country’s future rather than being described only as “leaders of tomorrow.”
