At Least 30 Killed as Two High-Speed Trains Collide in Spain

At least 30 people have been killed after two high-speed trains carrying about 500 passengers collided in Spain’s Toledo province, according to a local government official. The crash occurred along the railway route connecting Madrid, the Spanish capital, with Seville, prompting authorities to suspend the high-speed line linking the Madrid region with Andalusia.

Spain’s Prime Minister described the incident as serious as emergency responders continued dealing with the aftermath of the deadly collision. Railway infrastructure manager ADIF confirmed that the trains were travelling along the Madrid–Seville route when the incident occurred, raising fresh concerns about railway safety in the country.

The crash marks the third major train disaster reported in Spain in 2026. In January, a collision involving two high-speed trains near Adamuz in Córdoba province killed more than 40 people. Days later, a commuter train derailed near Barcelona, adding to concerns over the country’s railway network.
