Jobe Bellingham’s inclusion in England’s senior squad is the latest milestone in a promising career that has followed a similar trajectory to that of his older brother, Jude Bellingham.

The 21-year-old midfielder has gradually established himself in European football, earning recognition for his performances at Borussia Dortmund and securing his first opportunity with the Three Lions.

Much like Jude, Jobe began his football journey at Birmingham City’s academy before making the transition to senior football at a young age. Both brothers eventually moved to the Bundesliga and earned opportunities to represent England at international level.

Jobe made his first-team debut for Birmingham City at 16 years and 107 days, just over two months older than Jude was when he made his senior debut for the club.

His career subsequently took him to Sunderland, where he played an important role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League. At 19, he completed a move to Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth up to £31 million.

Jude had previously joined the German side at 17, using his time there to develop into one of football’s leading midfielders before securing a move to Real Madrid.

Jobe Bellingham Determined to Establish His Own Identity

Having an older brother regarded as one of the world’s finest midfielders has naturally placed Jobe under considerable attention, with comparisons between the two becoming a regular feature of his career.

However, the younger Bellingham has been keen to establish himself independently rather than constantly being associated with Jude.

One example is his decision to have ‘Jobe’ printed on the back of his shirt instead of his surname. The idea reportedly came from a former coach, who suggested it as a way of reinforcing his individuality.

Explaining the decision, Jobe said it represented his determination to follow his own path.

Thomas Tuchel Praises Bellingham Brothers’ Relationship

England manager Thomas Tuchel has welcomed Jobe’s arrival in the senior squad, describing the brothers’ shared international journey as a positive development.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Tuchel called their story beautiful and suggested that having Jude around could make the younger midfielder’s transition into the national team easier.

“They are both good for each other,” he said. “My understanding is they are very close.

“It makes life easier for Jobe to come into camp and know his brother is one of the key players in our team. So, that will hopefully help him, but don’t forget he is here on his own merits, and he is not here because of his brother.”

Although the brothers share similarities in their footballing backgrounds, their playing styles differ. Jobe operates in a deeper midfield position, combining physical strength with the technical ability to influence play.

England Under-21 Captain Earns Senior Recognition

Jobe’s international promotion also reflects his development with England’s Under-21 team, where he currently serves as captain.

Tuchel revealed that Lee Carsley, head coach of the Young Lions, had consistently advocated for the midfielder to receive an opportunity with the senior side.

The England manager highlighted Jobe’s leadership qualities, consistency and performances over an extended period as important factors behind his selection.

“He’s the standout player,” Tuchel said. “He’s the captain, so the door should always be open for the pathway, always be open for special performances over a long period of time.

“That’s what Jobe has done on top of it. He found his way, he found his rhythm with Dortmund. He’s had an excellent start to his season, is a regular starter and influential.”

Jobe’s call-up represents another significant step in his development, giving him the opportunity to establish himself at senior international level while continuing to build a career separate from his brother’s achievements.
