IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic has urged Anthony Joshua to retire from boxing, expressing concern over the former world champion’s recent performances ahead of his proposed fight with Tyson Fury. Joshua is scheduled to face fellow Briton Fury in Cardiff on December 11, according to the report.
Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Hrgovic said Joshua should consider leaving the sport rather than risk further punishment in the ring. He suggested that the financial rewards of the proposed fight could be influencing Joshua’s decision to continue boxing.
He also criticised Joshua’s performance against Kristian Prenga, who reportedly knocked him down twice before losing by second-round knockout. Joshua previously suffered a knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in 2024 before returning to defeat Jake Paul. Hrgovic maintained that boxing’s dangers make it important for fighters to recognise when to retire.
