Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe has assured Nigerians that electricity supply is expected to improve within 48 to 72 hours as the Federal Government works to address generation and transmission challenges. He said planned maintenance at Egbin Power Station and gas shortages at some thermal plants had reduced electricity available on the national grid.

Tegbe also identified damage to critical transmission lines as another factor affecting supply, particularly in Lagos. He said the government was working with power operators to restore generating units, improve gas supply and repair damaged infrastructure.

The assurance comes amid prolonged blackouts in several areas, including Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory. Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has disputed Ikeja Electric’s explanation for recent outages, blaming low power generation and distribution-related issues for much of the disruption.
