Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential bid suffered another setback after a Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the leadership structure that produced his candidacy.
Justice Peter Lifu ruled that the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee of the ADC was invalid and cancelled all actions taken by the committee. The ruling also affected Atiku’s nomination as the party’s presidential candidate and his choice of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as running mate.
The development has renewed questions about Atiku’s decision to rely on an existing party structure rather than build a new political platform. The ADC has vowed to appeal the judgment, while the crisis over the party’s leadership and succession remains unresolved.
