At 96, Lillian Droniak, popularly known as Grandma Droniak, has turned her online fame into a lucrative business, attracting around 15 million followers and earning money through brand partnerships.

The Connecticut grandmother reportedly makes enough to cover her nursing home fees of $12,000 (£9,000) a month, while also contributing to a college fund for her great-grandchildren.

Droniak went viral in June following a dispute with her retirement home over parties she reportedly hosted. Despite the controversy, she continues to entertain millions with her lively personality and videos.

She is not alone. Across the world, older women are finding unexpected fame online by sharing fashion tips, traditional recipes and everyday life experiences.

In Wales, 82-year-old Viv Truran has built a following of more than 800,000 by showcasing her colourful outfits, glasses and scarves. She also works with selected brands and charities, carefully choosing partnerships that reflect her interests.

Meanwhile, 83-year-old Nonna Gracie has become an internet favourite by sharing traditional Italian recipes. Encouraged by her grandson to start filming her cooking, she now reaches audiences around the world with videos celebrating food, family and cultural traditions.

Barbara Costello, 77, has also found success through her Brunch with Babs accounts, where she shares cooking, cleaning and homemaking advice. Many followers describe her as the mother or grandmother they never had.

Influencer marketing experts say older creators appeal to brands because they often have loyal audiences and strong connections with their followers.

Beyond commercial success, these women are challenging stereotypes about ageing and showing that life can remain exciting at any age.

Their popularity proves that social media fame is not reserved for younger generations. From fashion and food to family advice, the TikTok grannies are winning hearts, building businesses and inspiring millions around the world.
