A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has alleged a plot to assassinate African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. In a post on its verified X account, the firm alleged that the Nigerian Presidency and its agents were behind the plot, warning that Atiku’s life was in danger.
The firm said it intended to bring the allegations to the attention of the Trump administration and the US Congress. It also warned that any political assassination could trigger serious geopolitical consequences and prompt action from the United States. The allegations have not been independently established in the information provided.
Separately, former All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary Timi Frank has urged US President Donald Trump and the international community to intervene. In an open letter, Frank alleged plans to intimidate, arrest or detain Atiku and called on the United States, United Nations, African Union, ECOWAS, European Union and United Kingdom to engage the Nigerian government and seek assurances about the safety of opposition leaders.
