The Presidency has insisted that Peter Obi’s remarks about Nigerians in the diaspora sending money to their loved ones at home were not misrepresented. Presidential social media aide Dada Olusegun made the statement on Tuesday after the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate said his message had been twisted.

Obi made the remarks during a town hall meeting with supporters in the United Kingdom, urging Nigerians abroad to advise relatives seeking financial assistance to support leaders who could improve governance and productivity. He later clarified that he was not asking Nigerians in the diaspora to stop supporting their families financially.

However, Olusegun maintained that Obi’s words were clear and accused him of using divisive rhetoric in his political campaign. He also argued that the approach would not succeed ahead of the 2027 election, while Obi’s camp maintained that his original message had been misinterpreted.
