Broadcasting couple Andrea Oduobi Teke and Collins Teke, popularly known as The Tekes, have received the Award for Outstanding Social Impact in Broadcasting at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA).
The award recognises their contributions to promoting conversations about marriage, relationships, family values and building healthy homes.
The couple were recognised for pioneering what has been described as Nigeria and Africa’s first live radio programme jointly presented by a real-life married couple. Their programme brought personal experiences and different perspectives to discussions about marriage and family life.
Through their radio programme, The Tekes used broadcasting to promote conversations that could influence attitudes and strengthen family relationships.
Although the programme has since ended, the couple have continued their media work through Black Voice Media (BVM) Communications, a development media and communications outfit focused on social impact through strategic communication and storytelling. They are also planning to launch a family-focused podcast covering love, marriage, relationships and family values.
