Barcelona midfielder Rodri Hernández will be unavailable for Sunday’s La Liga encounter against Atletico Madrid after picking up a hamstring injury during the club’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Aston Villa on November 3.
The 30-year-old was replaced at half-time after complaining of discomfort in his right leg. Medical examinations later confirmed a minor injury to his right hamstring, with Barcelona stating that his recovery period would depend on how the problem develops. Spanish newspaper Diario Sport reports that he could be sidelined for up to a month.
Such an absence could also rule Rodri out of league matches against Villarreal, Celta Vigo and Deportivo, as well as Barcelona’s Champions League fixture against Sabah. His availability for Spain’s upcoming Nations League games against the Czech Republic and England may also be affected. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick could turn to Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong or Gavi, while Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde are possible injury returns ahead of the Atletico match.
