Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged President Bola Tinubu to explain how his administration spent billions of naira borrowed between 2023 and 2025. Obi made the remarks during the inauguration of the NDC campaign council in Kaduna, accusing the President of blaming political opponents instead of addressing Nigerians’ economic concerns.

The former Anambra State governor was responding to Tinubu’s comments at the All Progressives Congress campaign flag-off in Kaduna, where the President accused his opponents of contributing to poverty and hunger. Obi questioned what Nigerians had gained from the government’s borrowing and demanded explanations about the achievements recorded under the 2023, 2024 and 2025 budgets.

Peter Obi also criticised the administration over rising poverty, claiming Tinubu had presided over a record number of poor Nigerians. He said he and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would focus on addressing the country’s challenges rather than blaming previous administrations or political opponents.
