Nigeria’s inflation rate fell to 14.64 per cent in September 2026, down from 15.39 per cent in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The figures were contained in the Consumer Price Index and Inflation Report released on Thursday, indicating a further easing in the country’s inflation rate.
Despite the decline in overall inflation, food inflation rose slightly to 19.59 per cent in September from 19.57 per cent in August. The increase highlights continued pressure on food prices and the cost of living for Nigerians.
The development follows the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision at its September Monetary Policy Committee meeting to reduce the interest rate from 26.5 per cent to 23 per cent. The CBN cited easing inflation among the factors behind the decision.
