Veteran Nollywood actor Kola Olaiya has accused his colleague Pete Edochie of failing to acknowledge the contributions of older theatre practitioners who helped shape Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Olaiya made the allegation during an interview with Oyinmomo TV, arguing that Edochie should recognise the pioneers who worked in the profession before him.
Olaiya cited late theatre legend Hubert Ogunde, noting that he began his theatrical career in 1944, long before Edochie entered the industry. He also mentioned veteran performers Oyin Adejobi, Duro Ladipo and Kola Ogunmola as figures whose contributions helped establish Nigerian theatre.
According to Olaiya, Edochie might consider himself without a senior within his own ethnic group, but that would not apply to the entire Nigerian entertainment industry. Olaiya also recalled working with Ogunde, describing him as a father figure and mentor who had a significant influence on his life and career.
