Political commentator Jake Epelle has criticised Senate President Godswill Akpabio over his continued hold on the leadership of the Nigerian Senate. Epelle said public office holders must respect democratic principles and understand that no position is a permanent personal entitlement.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Epelle questioned Akpabio and his supporters over the efforts to retain the Senate presidency. He argued that leadership positions in the National Assembly should be determined by the rules and constitutional provisions governing the legislature, rather than personal relationships or political influence.
Jake Epelle also claimed he saw Akpabio appealing to President Bola Tinubu at the State House to retain his position. He stressed that the Senate presidency is a constitutional office, not a hereditary title or family possession, and urged political leaders to recognise the importance of democratic principles.
