British actress Cynthia Erivo has joined comedian Ayoade Bamgboye for a hilarious Saturday Night Live UK sketch that reimagines the hit musical Wicked as a chaotic, low-budget Nollywood production.
Titled Nigerian Wicked, the parody features Bamgboye as Elphaba and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda, with the fictional Holy Ghost Productions presenting its exaggerated take on the magical world of Oz. The comedy draws on familiar Nollywood tropes, including dramatic sound effects, tense character interactions and humorous dialogue, as the two characters share a room filled with old travel trunks.
The sketch becomes even more absurd when the pair travel to LagOz to meet the Wizard, played by Hammed Animashaun, who is portrayed as broke and wearing a fake luxury watch. With jokes about designer handbags, cosmetic surgery and exaggerated musical moments, the skit delivers a playful blend of Nigerian pop culture and Wicked.
