President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, and former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, have mourned the death of Malami Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria. Baba-Ahmed, an Islamic scholar and administrator, died in the early hours of Tuesday, with his funeral prayer scheduled to take place at the National Mosque in Abuja after the Zuhr prayers.

Gumi described the deceased as a bridge-builder who worked to promote unity, while Pantami described his death as a painful loss. Pantami said Baba-Ahmed dedicated 26 years to the service of Islam and humanity and advocated justice during his years of service.

Tinubu, in a condolence message conveyed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Baba-Ahmed as an impactful leader who served the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria with a commitment to unity, justice and peaceful coexistence. The President recalled his association with Baba-Ahmed, including the 2011 election period and the deceased’s counsel during his 2023 presidential campaign, and prayed for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
