Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has expressed confidence that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman will recover his form after a challenging start to the 2026/2027 season. Lookman has scored once in nine appearances across all competitions and was substituted at half-time during Atlético’s 2-1 victory over Alavés last weekend.
According to Into The Calderon, Simeone acknowledged that the 28-year-old had not yet reached the performance level expected of him. However, the Argentine manager noted that players experience dips in form and pointed to Lookman’s previous performances as evidence of his ability to deliver for the team.
Simeone encouraged Lookman to remain confident, continue dribbling and take on defenders even when he loses possession. He also described the Nigerian international as a goalscorer with the qualities needed to succeed, expressing confidence in his ability to return to his best level.
