Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has said performing in his native Twi gives him a level of confidence he never experienced when rapping in English. He shared his thoughts during a recent appearance on The Fuse, where he discussed how language has influenced his music career.
Sarkodie explained that he initially started rapping in English but often felt inferior when using the language. He said the experience made him reconsider how he expressed himself through music.
The rapper added that switching to Twi changed his outlook, allowing him to communicate his emotions more naturally and feel equal to other rappers around the world. He said: “But when I rap in Twi, I feel equal to any other rapper in the world.”
