Motorists in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital, have reduced their movements as several filling stations shut down despite the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announcing a ₦66 reduction in fuel prices. A survey by journalists on Thursday found that many stations had stopped selling petrol, leaving residents struggling to find the product.

A manager of one affected filling stations told Vanguard that petrol was available but the owner had ordered sales to be suspended because the stock was purchased at a higher price. The manager said selling at the newly announced lower rate could result in losses. Similar closures were reported at some filling stations in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, while residents said the situation had disrupted work and daily activities.

Commercial transport operators also expressed frustration, saying the price reduction had not brought relief. Some alleged that stations still selling petrol charged as much as ₦1,500 per litre, with motorists waiting in long queues. The limited availability and high prices have continued to affect residents, workers and drivers despite the announced price cut.
