Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has denied reports that he was arrested by the Nigerian Police and released on bail. The denial followed a report by Naija News that police spokesperson Aniete Iniedu told Channels Television that Okorocha was arrested in Abuja on Monday night and released after about an hour of interrogation.

According to the report, the police action was linked to allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. However, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha described the arrest report as false and insisted that he was never arrested, questioned or granted bail. He also accused the Imo State government of pursuing a political witch-hunt against him.

Okorocha further argued that the court order dated September 9, 2026, reportedly linked to the matter, had been vacated by the same court on September 14. He questioned why the order would still be relied upon in October and maintained that he would continue to defend his record in office. Okorocha governed Imo State from 2011 to 2019.
