Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has maintained that the Federal Government is withholding Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) dividend funds owed to states and local governments. In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde challenged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to address the allegation directly.

Seyi Makinde said a reconciliation exercise conducted by a consultant engaged by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), with federal government support, identified a shortfall of about ₦9 trillion due to states and local governments. He added that the report was held by both the Federal Government and the NGF, and questioned how NLNG dividend payments had been distributed among the different levels of government.

The Presidency had rejected Makinde’s allegation, describing it as false and politically motivated. However, Makinde, who is the NGF’s incumbent vice-chairman, insisted that he had evidence to support his claims and urged the government to explain how the reported $21.5 billion in NLNG dividends paid into the Federation Account since inception, including $3 billion received under Tinubu’s administration, had been disbursed.
