The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun receiving some sensitive materials for the 2027 general elections, according to its chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan. He disclosed this on Monday during a meeting with commission staff and a readiness assessment visit to Enugu State.
Amupitan said INEC was preparing for the elections through the procurement of materials and vehicles, facility upgrades, staff training and improved logistics. He added that training programmes would soon begin to prepare personnel for changes introduced by the new Electoral Act and the commission’s guidelines for the 2027 polls.
The INEC chairman urged staff to remain neutral before, during and after the elections, warning against any conduct that could undermine the credibility of the process. He stressed that professionalism, accountability and effective result management were essential to rebuilding public confidence in the commission.
