Fresh details have emerged surrounding the death of veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru, who reportedly passed away at the age of 57 on Thursday, October 22, 2026. A family source who spoke with Channels Television said the actor died at about 10 p.m. at the National Hospital in Abuja.
Duru’s family announced his death in a statement shared on his official Instagram page early Friday, saying he passed away following a brief illness. However, the family has not publicly disclosed the specific illness that led to his death.
President Bola Tinubu has described Francis Duru’s death as a painful loss to Nollywood and Nigeria’s creative community. In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu extended condolences to Duru’s family, colleagues and fans, while acknowledging the contributions of veteran actors to the growth of Nigerian cinema and the promotion of the country’s culture and stories.
