The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that health authorities are prepared to respond to Ebola following the detection of an imported case in Abuja. Presidential Task Force chairman Femi Gbajabiamila gave the assurance after an emergency meeting at the State House on Wednesday, saying the team had been working on preparedness measures since its inauguration in June.

Gbajabiamila said surveillance systems and existing health protocols helped authorities identify the case, adding that the government would strengthen procedures and enforce public health measures more rigorously. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, also confirmed that contact tracing and isolation measures were underway, with the Nigeria Centre for Ebola Disease Control, the World Health Organisation and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention supporting the response.

Pate said health facilities and response teams had been activated, while many states had plans in place to manage potential cases. He urged Nigerians to follow public health directives and avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary panic. The government said cooperation between citizens, health agencies and other authorities would be essential to containing the outbreak.
