Cristiano Ronaldo has accepted that he should be punished for leaving Portugal’s Nations League camp but insists the incident will not end his international career. The 41-year-old Al-Nassr captain said he would accept any sanction imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation and plans to return to the national team after serving any suspension.
Ronaldo left Portugal’s camp in Copenhagen ahead of the Nations League match against Denmark following a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus over his involvement in the team’s matches against Norway and Denmark. Ronaldo claimed Jesus broke an agreement concerning his playing time, while Jesus has disputed that version of events and denied that such an agreement existed.
Despite the disagreement, Ronaldo said he remains committed to Portugal and hopes to continue playing internationally as long as he remains physically fit and performs well for his club. The forward has scored 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal, holding the world records for international goals and appearances, while helping the country win Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles.
