The Chinese government has defended the decision by several major brands to end their sponsorship deals with French football star Kylian Mbappé following a controversial comment about China’s founding leader, Mao Zedong.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday that remarks or actions that hurt the feelings of China people would naturally face rejection in the country. The controversy began after Mbappé discussed his favourite meme during a French talk show and described it as featuring a Chinese dictator.
Brands including dairy giant Mengniu, beverage maker Dongpeng and cheese producer Milkground subsequently terminated their sponsorship agreements with the Real Madrid forward. Mbappé later apologised, describing his comment as ill-judged and expressing respect for the Chinese people and their history.

That’s why you must be mindful of the things you say when you are facing the public…you do not just talk…you filter your words 👌
