All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Osita Okechukwu has predicted that Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election could proceed to a runoff if no candidate secures enough votes to win in the first round. Okechukwu, a founding member of the APC and former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, made the prediction in an interview with Nigerian Tribune published on October 10, 2026.
Okechukwu argued that neither President Bola Tinubu, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar nor Peter Obi should be assumed to have enough support to win the election outright. He said expectations that any of the leading contenders would secure victory in the first ballot might be misplaced, describing a runoff as a possibility for the country’s next presidential contest.
The APC chieftain also questioned Atiku’s ability to attract votes from both the North and South, citing the importance of zoning and power rotation to national unity, equity and fairness. His comments reflect his personal assessment of the political landscape ahead of the 2027 election, rather than an established prediction of the final outcome.
