Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) member Aisha Yesufu has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its proposal to use artificial intelligence (AI) in collating results for the 2027 general elections. In a video shared on X, the activist argued that the electoral body should not adopt the technology without addressing concerns about accountability and transparency.
Aisha Yesufu cited the Corporate Affairs Commission’s experience with AI, claiming that some companies were still dealing with the consequences of its use. She said Nigerians must first elect leaders who are willing to face scrutiny and provide answers about their actions, adding that good governance begins with the people chosen to hold public office.
In a separate development, Yesufu recently criticised Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike over his claims about the G5 governors’ role in the 2023 presidential election. Wike had said the group allowed Peter Obi to win votes in parts of the South-South to weaken Atiku Abubakar’s chances, while excluding Rivers State from the arrangement. Yesufu questioned Wike’s claimed political influence, referring to the outcomes of the 2023 senatorial elections involving members of the G5.
