The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has criticised Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, over his call for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race in favour of Peter Obi.

Kwankwaso reportedly made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television, saying he had urged some Fulani groups to persuade Atiku to step aside. Reacting, ADC campaign spokesperson Kola Ologbondiyan described the comments as reckless and self-serving, alleging that Kwankwaso’s position could benefit President Bola Tinubu and weaken the opposition ahead of the election.

Ologbondiyan also questioned Kwankwaso’s commitment to the opposition’s efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that Atiku has established political relationships across Nigeria and urged Kwankwaso and his allies to support Atiku’s candidacy, which the ADC campaign council considers its preferred path to challenging Tinubu in 2027.
