The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi as political gamblers, urging Rivers State residents not to entrust their future to the opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the remarks during a Rainbow Coalition town hall meeting in Ayama, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he mobilised support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. He questioned the opposition figures’ leadership vision and developmental records, arguing that Nigerians should prioritise proven performance over repeated presidential ambitions.

Reacting, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) criticised Wike’s comments and questioned his own political consistency. NDC spokesperson Osa Director accused the minister of working with both the APC and a faction of the PDP, while ADC spokesperson Phrank Shaibu argued that Wike lacked the moral authority to criticise Atiku and Amaechi. The ADC maintained that its candidates were ready to present their records and seek the electorate’s judgment at the ballot box.
