Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane reportedly beat Kylian Mbappé to the 2026 Ballon d’Or by fewer than the 41 points that separated Rodri and Vinícius Júnior in 2024. France Football editor Vincent Garcia disclosed the narrow margin after Kane received the award at a ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Speaking to French newspaper L’Équipe, Garcia explained that Mbappé had led the voting race for much of the period before Kane made a late push to secure the honour. He said the contest was decided by a very small number of points, adding that the complete voting figures would be released on Saturday.
Kane’s victory was attributed to an outstanding season in which he reportedly scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and England, helping Bayern win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal. Mbappé finished second after leading the scoring charts in La Liga, the Champions League and the 2026 World Cup, while Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal placed third.
