A Yobe State High Court in Damaturu has sentenced 45-year-old Abubakar Musa, popularly known as Daddy, to death for killing his wife, Ammi Adamu Mamman. The court delivered its judgment on Wednesday after finding him guilty of culpable homicide, ruling that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The killing occurred on January 4, 2024, at the couple’s residence in New Bra-Bra Estate, Damaturu. Police reportedly received a distress call at about 4:48 a.m. and found that the woman had suffered severe bleeding after an alleged attack with a sharp object. Musa was arrested on the day of the incident, and the case was referred to the homicide unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
Mamman’s death sparked condemnation from her workplace, Yobe State University, civil society groups and the state government. The university expressed sorrow over the tragedy and called for justice, while Governor Mai Mala Buni offered condolences to the family and pledged that anyone found responsible would face prosecution. The court’s judgment comes nearly three years after the incident.
