Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused the FCT chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) of pursuing a politically motivated strike. Speaking after a meeting with chairmen of the six area councils, Wike maintained that labour’s concerns had been addressed and questioned why workers were still taking industrial action.
He also claimed that the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) had distanced themselves from the strike. He insisted that his administration had implemented its commitments on the issues raised by labour and said there were no outstanding disputes with the area councils.
The minister warned that workers who participate in the strike would face the government’s “no work, no pay” policy. He further alleged that the FCT NLC chairman was pursuing a political agenda linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), although the allegation was presented as Wike’s claim.
