African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has said Nigeria has yet to fulfil the promises of independence for millions of its citizens. In a message marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, he called for an end to corruption, oppression and injustice.
Sowore said Nigerians deserved freedom, dignity, equal rights and access to basic services, while criticising the country’s struggles with poverty, hunger, unemployment, insecurity, education, healthcare and electricity. He also accused successive governments of failing to properly utilise Nigeria’s human and natural resources.
The AAC candidate said Independence Day should go beyond ceremonial celebrations and political promises. He called for a Nigeria where workers earn living wages, young people have opportunities, farmers can work safely and citizens can challenge those in power without facing arrest or abuse.
